He is chairman of a national research committee on Globalizations, and at SCASSS he is developing a thematic research programme on Globalizations and Comparative Modernities. His most recent books are European Modernity and Beyond. The Trajectory of European Societies l945-2000 (London, Sage, l995), and Globalizations and Modernities. Experiences and Perspectives of Europe and Latin America (Stockholm, FRN, 1999).
He is currently engaged in studies of: Dimensions and History of Globalization,
Lateral Modernities: Meanings, Moments, and Outcomes of Modernity, The Political
Iconography of (European) Capital Cities, Norms and Normative Action in Sociological
Explanation.
